Meaning of Recycling

Introduction: Ask the children to list words that they believe are related to recycling. Make a list of these words on the blackboard. Why is it important to know these terms? What effect does recycling have on our environment?

Worksheet

  1. Distribute the worksheet to each student.
  2. Review the directions to the worksheet and have the students complete it individually.
  3. At the bottom of the worksheet are two words for the students to look up from a dictionary. Challenge the students to list other words (possibly from the blackboard list) to add to their list at the bottom of the sheet.

Additional Activity

Use the worksheet to begin a "recycling dictionary." As the class discovers more words, have them add the words to their dictionaries.
