Overview and Objectives of This Teacher Site

Overview:

This web site was developed to give teachers a tangible source of information on environmental issues, in particular those related to solid waste management. Activities have been designed to help students better understand their environment and put into practice what they have learned. Many of the curriculum areas are included in the activities presented in this web site.

These activites can be used any time of the year but are especially useful around Earth Day. If you have any suggestions or would like to contribute an activity that you have used with your class, please contact us at the Monroe County Solid Waste Management District.

Objectives:

Monroe County Solid Waste Management District, in conjunction with Monroe County Community School Corporation, seeks to prepare our children to be responsible citizens, and to develop the skills, awareness and determination necessary to become responsible stewards of the Earth.

The following specific objectives are addressed in the sample activities presented in this Teacher Idea section of this web site:

to give students a better understanding of solid waste management
to apply what they have learned about solid waste management to their day-to-day world.
